The State of Being sanctuary – associaçáo (association) is a registered non profit organisation in Portugal.
The purpose of the association is the social object of supporting mistreated equines (horses/donkeys) that are not protected by law, namely: to shelter, feed and provide healthcare. The support for equines also has an educational purpose for members of the community who are interested in the subject.

Although the State of Being sanctuary exists and operates since 2014, the official association only saw the light in the end of 2025. And with your generous donations we can expand and better the living conditions for the rescued horses.
